Fishing in and around Ballina

Tucked into the southern corner of Lennox Head is an area called the bream hole or moat. By wading out across the exposed reef it is possible to catch bream, mackeral, schnapper and other reef fish.

All along Seven Mile Beach it is possible to cast into holes to catch tailor when in season.

Please be aware that rock fishing can be a dangerous sport and some people have unfortunately lost their lives while fishing the headlands to the south of the village.

In the right conditions, boats can be launched from the southern end through a break in the reef known as 'The Moat'. With a boat it is possible to go outside and fish the pinnacle reef located just off the Point.

Access to the ocean for larger vessels is through the Richmaond River bar. Again please be aware of conditions when venturing offshore.
